Men’s tips and products

Each issue we’ll check out cool new products and gadgets, as well as hints, tips and wise words we think you’ll like

CAN YOU BEAR THE BEARD?

If you thought we’d reached peak-beard, don’t go shaving it all off just yet. If you or your fella have gone for a furry face of late, the good news is that they’re – apparently – still bang on trend.

But if you’re looking for a trimmer to keep that beard in check – not looking like Uncle Albert’s from Only Fools and Horses – our favourite is the Wahl 9818 Lithium Ion Plus. It’s powerful, well-balanced and feels great in your hand.

And, if you’re not a fan of messy gadgets, this one looks the part, too.

GET FIERCE THIS SPRING

Our top cologne this season is Fierce by Abercrombie and Fitch. It has a sweet, woody fragrance. If you’re an expert you may be able to spot the notes of fir, orange, lemon, cardoon and jasmine. If, like us, you just know you like what you like, give this one a go.

A recent ‘sniff test’ in the UK found Fierce resulted in the most compliments from women. So now you know.

THE PHONE THAT’S BETTER THAN A CAMERA

If, like us, you love your tech, this season’s must have is the Samsung S9. It was unveiled at the start of March at the Mobile World Congress, with an improved camera compared with the S8 with amazing resolution and incredible low-light shooting, plus an improved in-built digital assistant.

It also does incredible slow-mo video… and we mean really slow slow-mo. Perfect for something different the next time you’re at a hill climb or doing something a bit out of the ordinary.

It’s on pre-order right now and already available in some stores.

WORDS OF WISDOM

Finally, some words of wisdom to lift your day. We stumbled upon this passage from Jacob Nordby and loved it. We hope you do too:

'I can’t save the world or solve its problems.

That’s too much. Too big.

But I can turn and honestly face my own problems, fears, and pain.

I can learn to love myself.

I can love and serve those within my arms’ reach.

I can turn my own life into art.

Somehow when I do this, my life is enough and I have done my part'
